Export sales is a great opportunity for genetics

Euro Gen got an opportunity to supply animals to Georgia.

The company passed a long way from simple plans to actual deliveries: successful audit of farms by specialists from Rosselkhoznadzor and then by the Georgian veterinary. As the result of this audit Euro Gen obtained an export permission.

At the moment 2 batches of gilts and boars has been delivered to the client. Further deliveries to the customer will be carried out according to the planned schedule. The expert from the customer's side conducts the final selection of animals and accompanies them all the way.

Employee Training: the secret to business success.

In the beginning of February engineers of Malcom Corporation held a technical training to Euro Land team at Stanovlyanskiy and Dobrinskiy crop sites.

The goal was to settle the most burning issues and fill the gaps in knowledge of the farm machinery operators who work with CLAAS tractors and harvesters. The objectives of the training were to develop the ability to detect and manage machine malfunctions, to determine ways to improve equipment effectiveness, to define the specifics of the operation methods and maintenance of systems.

Euro Land has a systematic approach to trainings. It allows to increase an employee motivation, to improve maintenance efficiency, to reduce a company’s requests to service centers and, as a result, to cut costs of service and time spent on maintenance works.

Otrada launches a new retail chain ‘Myaso Est’

In spring 2018, a new brand Myaso Est’, already well-known for its high quality, entered the Otrada Group portfolio.

The branding campaign is aimed at selling chilled pork and by-products from the company’s own farms at affordable prices.
The Myaso Est’ brand grew from a small shop into a 7-shop chain in just a few months. The main brand concept is "We want our products to be affordable to customers. That is why our prices are very similar to the wholesale ones, so that our customers can buy our products not only "on a special occasion" but when they just "want meat"".
The brand ensures high quality at low producer prices. A true gem is the minimalist interior design and simple meat cutting which play into the hands of each and every consumer.
A good location of the shops is another benefit. The brand "shop-in-shop" idea was actively supported by the largest retailer X5 Retail Group, so Myaso Est’ can be easily found in conveniently located retail shops.

Harvesting reaches the finish line

Striving to be totally self-sufficient, Otrada produces more than 100% of grain needed to feed its pigs. This year Otrada has successfully completed harvesting grain, bringing in more than 54 000 tons of grain (feed barley, multiplication barley, spring wheat, malt barley and winter wheat) from an area of 12 000 ha.
This year, thanks to good weather, the harvest campaign was conducted without long breaks.
Euro Land LLC has already finished harvesting cereals. Sunflower and soya are the only crops left to be harvested.
In comparison with 2017, due to the amount of rain, less volume of grain was harvested: in 2017 there was 200 mm of rain during the vegetation period, while this year - only 70 mm. Undoubtedly, it strongly influenced the plant development and yield.
Among those technologies Otrada applies is a specific farm management system designed purely for the needs of agricultural companies involved in land cultivation – Cropio farm management. Cropio is a very useful and convenient management tool that provides a wide range of information needed for monitoring and controlling the field works. It allows to see the field and crop condition online, weather forecast and soil moisture status and even the yield prognoses. Cropio has a possibility for integration with telematics and GPS systems and that helps to monitor the hourly and daily work of all the machinery as well as their efficiency and movements. In case of the off-plan work, absence of a signal and other issues, the system sends automatic alarms so that managers can react and improve the situation as quickly as possible.
For the 2018-2019 season it is planned to crop planted areas mainly to get feed for Company's pig operations but also to have some high value crops such as soya, sunflower and multiplication barley.

Euro Land in Stanovoye District: Plans and Prospects

The journalists of Zvezda, a newspaper from Stanovoe District, met Euro Land’s Operation Manager Per Rendbaek to talk about the company’s plans and prospects for development.
Mr. Rendbaek says that clean-up and reconstruction are now in progress at the TOKs and the farm territory.
The company’s plans are to develop its cattle breeding business. It’s totally new to the segment because Otrada Group’s core operations are centered around gilt breeding and sales. According to Mr. Rendbaek, the company is going to invest in improvement of forage quality, purchase of new machinery, and optimization of production processes. Euro Land in Stanovoe owns around 10,000 ha of land plots. The preferable ingredients for producing pig feeds are barley, triticale, wheat, and horse beans, while alfalfa and silage maize are used in making cattle feeds. Some of the land plots are seeded with brewing barley and sunflower.
Since modern machinery is essential for reaching high performance and developing competitive production, Euro Land gives priority to global machinery makers. The bulk of the company’s machinery is produced by Claas and Horsch, and is provided with OEM maintenance services. All of these machines are reliable, highly efficient, and sizable (12 m in width). The tractors are equipped with GPS guidance for controlled traffic farming. Apart from buying new machines, the company intends to implement modern crop production practices, specifically, no-till farming whereby the soil is left without tillage and covered with mulch to prevent erosion. As these methods require specific soil condition, land improvement operations will take several years. In no-till farming, it is important that the field surface is even because the machines are supposed move on the same tracks.
While modern technologies supersede human labor and bring its role in production to a minimum, cutting-edge companies stay focused on people. Goals are challenging, but tasks are set clearly and workers are rewarded for their merits and achievements with special attention paid to training in advanced machinery operation. The company is involving professionals from other farms, especially operators, to train the employees. Euro Land is staffed with around 100 people. For the most part, these are the people who chose to stay on their jobs after the reorganization of Moskovskoye and Palyonskoye farms. The staff includes highly qualified agronomists, engineers and farm workers. Euro Land’s production operations are carried out by experienced machinery operators and livestock breeders who are driven by results. The company is also looking to create new jobs due to the construction of  two multiplication pig farms in the nearest future.

Patrick Hoffmann, CEO of Otrada Group, spoke in front of the MBA students in Switzerland

The importance of knowledge sharing becomes clearer when you understand the tremendous value it contributes to all the parties. In Otrada, knowledge is a crucially important currency that the Company is always ready to share, as its management does believe that this process provides opportunities to learn interesting things from other people’s experience and about its own business. Usually, these findings turn into improvements of Otrada’s performances and that of its clients.
Otrada’s management sets a shining example of these values. Patrick Hoffmann, CEO of Otrada group, is always willing to share his ideas and experience. In recent years, he has accepted several invitations to address MBA students, both in Skolkovo (Moscow) and in IMD (Lausanne – Switzerland).
On the 8th of March, he spoke in front of the attendees of an MBA Program at IMD Business School (International Institute for Management Development). It was the fourth time Patrick Hoffmann has been invited there as a guest speaker.
This program represents the core courses designed for the educational needs of students allowing them to earn an MBA Degree. IMD also provides a platform for best practices exchange among general managers of the largest European companies: Nestlé S.A., Fortaco Group, Microsoft Western Europe, Syngenta, etc.
This time Patrick Hoffmann gave a presentation about “How can pigs lead to becoming an entrepreneur?“ where he highlighted issues relating to the Company’s development: overviews of strategic planning, its corporate values, main achievements, roadblocks Otrada had to overcome. An enlightening exchange of views about the potential developments of Otrada concluded the session. The speech was illustrated by telling examples and actual business situations. Numerous questions concerning production management, the specifics of genetic selection, export potential, etc. were raised by attendees. Students were particularly interested in Patrick Hoffmann’s story as an entrepreneur, both from a personal and a professional point of view.

Strong commitment to education is part of Otrada’s DNA

Nowadays businesses are recognizing that fostering education is a crucial building block for creating a sustainable future, for both the company and the community. As Chief Executive Officer of Otrada Group Patrick Hoffmann says the indispensable part of the DNA of the company is its strong commitment to education. Decision has thus been made to establish “Otrada Academy” which will offer a unique learning environment for development of well-trained and properly educated working force in the pig production industry and in farming in general.
The Academy will be built on the model of the Danish farming schools which have a proven record in training professional specialists in all farming areas.
Thus, block release training courses – an alternate between theoretical lessons at the Academy and practical lessons at farms – will represent a fundamental principle of educational process in the Academy. After successful completion of the course each student will be awarded with Academy Certificate / Diploma and will consequently be encouraged to internal promotion.
Exactly as other prosperous international companies that are spending their sustainable budgets on education, Otrada Academy engagement won’t be limited by vocational in-farm swine courses. Therefore Otrada Academy – alongside other companies mostly from France – has sponsored a noteworthy event called 4L Trophy. It is the hugest humanitarian rally that only students can join with Renault 4 cars. Its objective is to drive across the Moroccan desert to provide disadvantaged children with 50 tons of school supplies. Getting to know that financing of such a humanitarian project is a hard part of 4L Trophy for students and that almost every team relies on private funds to finance their project, Otrada Academy agreed to sponsor a team of French students: Nicolas, who worked as an intern for Otrada Group last year, and Néomie. At present they are studying in EMLYON, one of the top 3 business management universities in France.
The 20th anniversary of 4L Trophy was held from 15th February to 25th February 2018. 2 900 participants from 15 different countries had to drive 6 000 km from departure site in Biarritz (southwest of France) in the direction of Algeciras (south of Spain) to sail to Tangier, Morocco, and then to get to Marrakech, Morocco.  Everyday aim was to win the day's stage using the Road Book, a map of Morocco and a compass. The Academy Otrada’s team was accompanied by a mascot – a big piggy.
The ranking was based on the teams' ability to drive in the desert and to reach the checkpoints as required. It was not important to be the fastest team but to be able to reach the meeting point by doing as few kilometers as possible. What is more, the Moroccan desert implies a lot of challenges. Participants had to drive through dunes and sand tracks, overcoming the different “wadis”, an Arabic name given to unstable sand area, and staying on course while being in a lunar landscape.
Moreover, Renault 4L car is not typically the best car to go through that kind of troubles. Truth be told, it is an old car produced since 1961 until 1992 and very similar to Russian “Zhiguli” cars.
It is a great honour for Otrada Group to have been a part of such a socially important event as Trophy 4L.
